Founder and our host at Bastijana winery is Mr. Andro Tomić, a man who has devoted all his life to wine. He was born at the island of Hvar and after 20 years of training at the institutes and colleges around the world he decided to return to Hvar and continue family tradition of winemaking over 150 years old. Tomić winery produces around 130 000 – 150 000 bottles per year, on about 10 hectares of his own vineyards. Apart of Plavac mali and Prošek they make Beleca white wine and Opolo rose. Wine cellar ” Triklinij”, which is filled with barrels of barrique and carved in stone just like in Diocletian’s basements, is really something that will leave you breathless and make you come back again!
Our host at Duboković winery is Mr. Ivo Duboković – owner one of the best Croatian plavac mali barique “Medvid”. He only produces 15 000 – 20 000 bottles per year and therefore his wines are extremely demanding. One of his co-operative vineyards is located at an altitude of 530m near the Hvar’s St. Nicolas peak and is over 90 years old (autochthonous wine variety called “Darnekuša”). Apart from wines you can also taste a wide variety of aromatized olive oils. Mr. Ivo Duboković is a man who is not afraid to experiment with wines and olive oil, what makes him so special. As a result, his wines can be found at desks of top restaurants in Croatia, Switzerland, Germany and recently even in France. This modest but admired winery will amaze you and the flavour of aromatized olive oils will follow you throughout your vacation!
