Hvar

The town of Hvar seems like a masterpiece from the past, a gem hidden in time. It was shaped by the centuries and expansion. Virgin nature, beaches, bays, cultural and historical inheritance made it one of the top tourist destinations on the Adriatic coast.

The most recognizable attractions are the Hvar Fortress, built on the hill above the town in the 16th century, the St. Stephen’s cathedral, a few steps from the Benedictine monastery (known for the famous lace making). Stroll around the most beautiful piazza in Dalmatia and take photos of the Venetian loggia and the oldest public theatre in Europe, located in the Arsenal building.

In case you decide to have some peace and tranquillity, visit the stunning garden of Hanibal Lucić, or follow the waterline and stop by the Franciscan monastery, built in the 15th century by the nobles of Hvar, well known for its collection of rare objects, charts, lace, documents and paintings.

Apart from the usual souvenirs, you can buy lavender oil or the unique handmade jewellery as a memento of this wonderful town.

Stari Grad

Did you know that the island of Hvar has been included in the prestigious UNESCO Heritage Lists for five times? These outstanding examples are the Stari Grad Plain, the agave lace from the Benedictine nuns, the procession following the Cross, the klapa singing and the Mediterranean food.

Stari Grad is the oldest town in Croatia. In 384 B.C. the Greeks from the island of Paros in Agean Sea have settled the town on the island of Hvar and named it Pharos. The Stari Grad Plain represents a comprehensive system of land use and agricultural colonisation by them, in the 4th century BC. Its land organization system, based on geometrical parcels with dry stone wall boundaries (chora), is flawless.

A walk through the Stari Grad centre, narrow streets and small squares brings the whispers of the past times. The top attraction in Stari Grad is the Hektorović Tvrdalj, the castle built by one of Croatia’s most famous poets – Petar Hektorović (1487-1572). The renaissance poet built it throughout his life and it had the great importance to his literary works. This private oasis offered shelter to travellers and to the poor. It was a sanctuary for birds, fish and selected plants. All this is hidden behind harsh and solemn facade walls, once reflected in the still waters of the cove just outside Tvrdalj square. A visit to this little piece of Heaven will leave you speechless!

Vrboska

Vrboska is the smallest town on the island of Hvar, but is famous for its location, nature and cultural attractions. It is situated in the mere heart of the island, deep in the bay with a wonderful marine. Vrboska has all the charm and breathtaking renaissance architecture in each and every alley.

This area has been inhabit since the ancient times but only later became a fisherman’s village and, nowadays, a picturesque town. Its nickname is “Little Venice” because it is known for the canal and short bridges connecting the two sides. The Fisherman’s museum, the traditional boats and the fortress church of St. Mary of Mercy, built to protect the inhabitants from attacks by the Turks, are just some of the attractions you simply have to visit.

Vrboska was founded by the seaman and the cuisine is based on fresh seafood, olive oil and usage of traditional spices and seasonings to create exciting new flavours. Accompanied with a glass of high quality Hvar wine, you won’t regret the visit.

Take a Hvar island sightseeing tour accompanied by a professional local tourist guide! This tour will reveal the loveliness of the whole island. It begins with town of Hvar tour and heads through a scenic road surrounded by lavender fields towards Stari Grad.
